Petition to Oppose Parks Sales
April 18, 2018
Knowsley MBC are pursuing the sale of of 17 of our Parks and Green spaces to developers after failing to make any provision in their Council budgets from April 2019 to cover the maintenance costs of all 161 Parks & Green Spaces within the borough.
We strongly oppose these plans on the basis that our parks & green spaces are vital to our community and not one should be sold. Once they are gone they are gone forever and lost to our future generations.
Knowsley MBC claim that they have no option but to sell these parks & green spaces. We disagree and see this as a clear choice not a necessity.
The maintenance costs for our Parks & Green spaces according to Knowsley MBC's own figures is £1.3m per annum which represents a cost figure of only £6 per day per hectare to maintain. This is only 0.84% of the total budget proposals for 2018/19 and would make the service one of the most cost effective within the authority.
There are other options available and we simply ask Knowsley MBC to look into these before proceeding with any sales.
